Pune Festival, an amalgam of music, dance, drama, art and sport, is CELEBRATING it’s SILVER JUBILEE YEAR and will be inaugurated on Friday 13th September at the Shree Ganesh Kala Krida Rangmanch at 4.30 pm at the hands of Shri. Kapil Sibal, Honorable Minister For Communication, IT, Law & Justices, Government of India. H.E. Shri Daniele Mancini, Ambassador of Italy to India, H.E Shri Tariq A. Karim, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, Shri. Chhagan Bhujbal, Honorable Minister for Tourism, Government Of Maharashtra, Shri. Harshavardhan Patil, Honorable Minister for Co-operation- GOM, Shri. Narendra Singh, CMD Bank of Maharashtra, Shri Rahul Bajaj, Chairman Bajaj Auto ltd, Rashtrasant Shri Bhaiyyu Maharaj, Shri. Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil (MP), Shri Udayanraje Bhosale (MP), Shri. Vipul Chaudhary, Chairman GCMMF, Dr. Jagdish Patil, MD-MTDC will be Guest of Honour among others. Actors Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Shetty, Sameera Reddy, Kangna Ranaut, Chunky Pandey, Urmila Matondkar, Isha Koppikar, Rajiv Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor will also grace the occasion in the presence of Smt. Hema Malini.

The Inauguration program will be telecast live on Doordarshan Sahyadri Vahini (DD 10) from 4.30 pm onwards.

Pune Festival is jointly organized by the People of Pune, The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation, The Tourism Dept., Government of India and the Pune Festival Committee. Conducted alongside the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav started by Lokmanya Tilak, this is the only 10 day cultural festival which is being conducted in India continuously for the past 24 years !

It is a tradition in Pune Festival to honour individuals whose contributions, achievements and accomplishments have earned them high repute in their respective fields. This year the Pune Festival Award is being conferred upon renowned Classical Vocalist Padmavibhushan Dr. M Balmurali Krishna, Senior Social Activist Dr. Prakash Amte, Shri Narendra Singh, CMD, Bank of Maharashtra, Shri Sriniwas Joshi of Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal the organizers of Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Sangeet Mohostav and Shri. Dyanoba Landge, organizer of bullockcart races.   

Shripad Sarvajanik Ganeshostav Mandal, Camp will be felicitated for completion of 100 years, by conferring the ‘ Jai Ganesh Puraskar ’  in the memory of Late Tatyasaheb Godse of Srimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust.

The recognized Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals from Pune will be specially felicitated on the occasion of silver jubilee year of Pune Festival in the Opening Ceremony. These include Kasba Ganpati Mandal, Shree Tambdi Jogeshwari Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, Guruji Talim Sarvajanik Mandal, Tulshibag Ganpati Mandal, Kesariwada Ganpati and Jilbya Maruti Mitra Mandal, Hutatma Babu Genu Mandal, Shrimant Bhausaheb Rangari Ganpati Trust, Akhil Mandai Mandal and Shrimant Dagduseth Ganpati Mandal.

As every year, the Inauguration Ceremony of Pune Festival 2013 will be a spectacular event.  Some of the highlights are an Invocation song starting with  sanskrit shlokas followed by a classical composition in Carnatic music by Nandini Gujar, Ganesh Vandana by Hema Malini and her daughters, Esha and Ahana, glimpses of “Shivarajyabhishek”, from the great drama “Jaanta Raja” presented by Shivshahir Babasaheb Purandare with more than 100 artists, installation of Ganpati bappa on dias with Laserman,  Grand finale of ‘Bollywood Dhamaka – Lavani Style” choreographed by Nikita Moghe and presented by actors Urmila Matondkar,  Isha Koppikar, Varsha Usgaonkar, Sharvari Jamenis, Tejaswini Lonari, Sai Lokur, Shruti Marathe & Smita Tambe and Pune Festival Artists , “A journey to remember” a film on 24 Glorious year of the Pune Festival will also be Shown.

Shri Pradeep Bhide and Ms. Devika Nadig will compere the event in Marathi and English respectively.
